Amy Caruso

Grant Writer

Amy Caruso is the Grant Writer and Fundraising Coordinator at Kitchen of Purpose.

Before joining Kitchen of Purpose in late 2022, Amy directed and fundraised for programs serving the immigrant community in College Park, MD. During the midst of the pandemic, she started what became a thriving Get One Give One meal program called “Community Meals” that both alleviated hunger and provided job and training opportunities for immigrants and recently arriving Afghan women who had fled their home country. She also created an innovative Wellness Program in cooperation with community partners like Luminus Healthcare for the prevention of diabetes among at-risk Latino women.

Amy studied writing at Eastern University (2005) and later received her M.A. from St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute (2017).  She recently studied with the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies, and now works to counter prejudice/bias toward the Muslim community and builds interfaith partnerships that support low-income families.

In the past, Amy has worked with various organizations serving marginalized communities in the DC Metro area including Community Bridges, Mary House, L’Arche Greater Washington DC, and CASA de Maryland.

Amy lives in Greenbelt, MD and is the mother of two boys who love to play soccer. She loves cooking and baking just for the sheer joy of it and is proud to be a part of the good work that Kitchen of Purpose does around food, justice, and human dignity.
