Melissa Cuellar-Claros

Workforce Development Coordinator

Melissa Cullar-Claros is a first-generation Bolivian American born and raised in the DMV. She holds a B.A. in Social Work from George Mason University and has over two years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with a strong focus on case management and community advocacy.

Melissa’s passion for service began in high school through volunteer work with Volunteer Alexandria, where she supported individuals experiencing homelessness. During her undergraduate studies, she continued serving her community as a volunteer at Inova Alexandria Hospital, collaborating closely with patients, hospital staff, and fellow volunteers.

As part of her academic training, Melissa completed two social work practicums. During her junior year, she worked at Community Lodgings as an after-school teacher, providing academic instruction and emotional support to elementary and middle school students from economically disadvantaged and immigrant backgrounds. In her senior year, she completed her practicum at Just Neighbors, where she supported immigrant survivors of domestic and sexual violence. In this role, Melissa provided stabilization services to survivors, facilitating access to essential resources.

Melissa joined KOP in January 2026 as a Workforce Coordinator, where she provides social services support to help clients achieve stability and long-term success. She is passionate about connecting people with the tools, resources, and support they need to thrive, and hopes to continue growing these skills at Kitchen of Purpose. Melissa is also excited to build strong connections with both the Kitchen of Purpose team and the clients she serves.

In her free time, she enjoys painting and discovering new music.
